At the entrance to Thiripyitsaya village stand the East and West leik Pagodas. Some 50 years ago when these 11th century pagodas were in disrepair, it was decided to clear the debris from around their base. This operation revealed rows of unglazed terracotta tiles illustrating scence from the jataka, the story of the Buddha's previous lives. Sadly, many of these plaques have since either been stolen or have fallen prey to the weather. As a result they are now surrounded by a rather unsightly fence and roofed over.
